Toyota Hilux 4 spot Caliper with Mitsubishi Vented Rotor

Model of Car to Source Parts;

1. Toyota Hilux / 4 runner (for calipers)
2. Magna Models (for rotors);

TR 4 cyl Up to 8/92
TR, V6 Non ABS models - 93 onwards
TR, TS V6 ABS models only - 93 onwards
TE 4 Cyl, V6 ABS & non ABS - 4/96 - on
TF, TH, TJ, VR-X, Sports V6 TL (ES, LS, VR, VR-X) V6 - 6/97 onwards

If buying new, might be worth purchasing the DBA425US (Undrilled & Slotted)

Also the VR4 rotors are the same in all dimensions, but use a 4 x 114.3 stud pattern, unsure of the bolt hole spacings for bolting to the hub, but I've been told these are the measurements needed = bolt hole is 10.5 DIA on 90mm PCD. DBA part number DBA402.

Parts Required

1. Calipers
Toyota Hilux 4spot calipers (to suit vented rotor)
2. Rotors -
276 x 24mm vented rotors Magna Rotors
3. 240k struts that have the 270mm rotor standard. Some 200b struts can also work, but haven't worked out what models to suit yet.

Modifying Rotors;

1. The centre hole is 69mm and needs to be enlarged to the 73mm required by the 240k hub.

2. Now there is a slight offset issue that can be fixed 2 ways;

A: Spacing the caliper out from the hub (towards the strut) using washers or shims, distance is about 3mm.
B: Machining about 3mm off the caliper mounting face (where is bolts to the strut).

The above is needed to centre the caliper directly over the rotor.

3. Swap the The LHS strut to the RHS and vice versa to clear the steering arm ball joint.

4. Pics here show the Final Product (Note the spacers between the rotor and hub);

Advantages of this conversion

This converison will fit under some 14 inch rims.
Can be fitted to the 510,610,810 at least, with no problems generally.

Disadvantages of this conversion

The weight of the calipers (as they aren't alloy).

Important things to note

There are 2 types of Hilux 4 spot calipers. 1 type will suit a vented rotor, one will suit a solid rotor. A vented rotor is much wider than a solid rotor, so the difference in calipers is going to be the gap that the rotor sits between in the caliper itself.

Below are some pictures & info to help explain this;

QUOTE
Taken from Hybridz forums -There are two different Toyota 4x4 calipers with the casting mark "S12+8". One for a solid rotor and one for a vented (wider) rotor. The 1979-85 4x4 calipers are for use with a solid rotor but the 1986-88 4x4 calipers are also marked "S12+8" but they are designed to fit the wider, vented rotor.

Would you happen to have a pic of the redrilled rotor? I am keen to see how you 'located' the 4 stud layout. i.e. did you drill 4 new holes or use one of the 5 stud holes and drill 3 more? I need a set for my EVO, but the 4 stud DBA 402 is nearly twice the price of the 5 stud Verada DBA 425 ... not happy.

Closet I've got is a pic of a set of z32 300zx rotors drilled to 4 stud. check out the pic below;

Basically it's just 1 hole that just overlaps, it's unlikely its going to fail (datsport sell redrilled rotors like above.)

You can buy blanks, the part code just has a U on the end, and add and S for slotted.

Thanks for the pic.

I realised after I posted that the PCD of the required mounting holes for the Datto would not be 114.3 is it is with the EVO ... d'oh!

I am in discussions now with DBA re the pricing issue of DBA 402S's cf 425S's. They realise something is not quite right there. Hopefully it can be resolved next week. Otherwise I will be looking into DBA425SU's.

There are also a set of slotted solid rotors on eBay to suit S30's ATM. Must be of interest to someone. Price seems raesonable.

To finish that story ... DBA did tell me that the pricing for the DBA 402 S was not correct.

They would not disclose how much they reduced the wholesale figure, but the pair I have since fitted were nearly $100- a disk less than the original quotes.

If anyone out there was put off by the original $$$, I suggest you ask again.

DBA 425's are still a cheaper option for the Datto's, but just in case you punt a VR4 or early EVO ...
